The presidential campaign of Joe Biden has begun the processes of selecting a VP, and they’re already facing backlash. Although the campaign has pledged to pick a woman (hooray!) and strongly signaled that it may be a woman of color (yaass!), the recent shortlist they released contained exactly zero disabled, transgender, former felons, which is, like, serious not inclusive.

Activists around the country said they were personally hurt, both physically and psychologically by the omission. The Derringer tried to speak to several them, but they were simply too overcome with tears of righteous anger and sobs of fury to answer our questions. Their pained (albeit a bit loud) silence may be the most poignant answer.

For their part, the Biden campaign has proposed a promising solution to the problem. “How about we just break Joe’s legs, transition him into a woman, and get him arrested for meth before election day?” It’s unclear if activists will accept this offer, but it would certainly be a start.
